Sony Xperia i1 Honami detailed specification leaks online

Sony may not be making too much
headlines since it announced the Xperia Z Ultra, but that doesn't mean
that the company is not working on any other devices. The latest buzz is
about the Japanese handset vendor's next flagship device Xperia i1,
popularly known as 'Honami', that has been the subject of several leaks
in the past.

According to ePrice, Sony Xperia i1 will come with a 5.0-inch display with 1080p resolution. It will be powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. The most-talked about specification is its 20-megapixel Exmor RS camera that would also feature Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor which are usually found in some of Sony's digital cameras.

The front will house a 2.0-megapixel camera. The device will come with 16GB expandable storage, though the maximum supported capacity has not been detailed yet. The device will include a 3,000mAh battery and would come with dimensions 144x73.9x8.3mm. It will run the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

The device is also said to come with IP57 certification which means it is dust-and water-resistant.

It is being said that Sony will unveil its Honami smartphone at a press event on September 4 at the IFA expo in Berlin. ePrice further claims that Sony has already sent out invitations related to the launch of Sony Xperia i1 Honami.

The Sony Xperia i1 'Honami' alleged press shots were leaked a few days ago. Earlier the model number of the handset was confirmed to be C6906.

Orangutan remark: Politician under fire for racist slur

Orangutan remark: Roberto?Calderoli remarked at an anti-immigrant rally that Cecile?Kyenge, a Congolese-born Cabinet minister, resembles an orangutan, prompting huge outcry.

By Nicole Winfield,?Associated Press / July 15, 2013

Italian Integration Minister Cecile Kashetu Kyenge speaks with reporters at the Foreign Press Club in Rome, June 19. Premier Enrico Letta has harshly criticized a top Italian senator who likened Ms. Kyenge, the country's first black Cabinet minister, to an orangutan, the latest high-profile racist episode in a nation grappling with immigration.

Calls mounted Monday for the Senate vice president to resign after he compared Italy's first black Cabinet minister to an?orangutan, with the Italian premier lamenting that the country had been "shamed" by such insults and demanding they stop immediately.

"When I see images of Kyenge I cannot help think, even if I don't say that she is one, of a resemblance to an orangutan," Corriere della Sera newspaper quoted?Roberto?Calderoli as saying.

Calderoli, a leader of the anti-immigrant Northern League, has insisted he was only joking when he made the comment at a League rally last weekend. He told the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Monday that he compares all his colleagues to animals and that what he says at a political rally shouldn't have any bearing on his work as the Senate No. 2.

Cecile?Kyenge, a Congolese-born eye doctor, has been insulted with racist slurs from the Northern League ever since she was named integration minister in April. One Northern League politician has called her a Congolese "monkey," while another has said she deserved to be raped.

Kyenge responded to Calderoli's latest insult by saying it's not for her to demand his resignation but for Italians to reflect on the merits of public office-holders.

"We have to use messages that don't instigate violence," the ANSA news agency quoted Kyenge as telling a rally in Pescara. "Surely it's not my job to respond to violence with violence."

Premier Enrico Letta, though, told League leader Roberto Maroni to put an end to the slurs from within his party ranks.

"I think we've had enough shame so far," Letta said, noting how the story has been playing internationally.

Letta's Democratic Party has called for Calderoli's resignation, as have a few ministers. The president of the Senate, anti-Mafia prosecutor Pietro Grasso, has called Calderoli's comments "racist verbal aggression."

Letta was particularly irked that another League official, Matteo Salvini, had chastised Italy's respected president for coming to Kyenge's defense after Calderoli's insult.

On his Facebook page, Salvini essentially told President Giorgio Napolitano to keep quiet. By Monday afternoon, the comment had received more than 850 "likes."

"What Italy has been going through since yesterday on such issues is a page of shame which is absolutely unbearable," Letta said at a news conference with the visiting Maltese prime minister. He issued what he called a "sincere appeal" to Maroni to put a stop to it.

"Please close this episode as soon as possible," he said.

The Northern League, which helped author Italy's strict immigration law, is vehemently opposed to Kyenge's call for children born in Italy to immigrants to be able to gain Italian citizenship. Currently, such children must wait until they are 18 to apply, and often bureaucratic snafus interfere.

Rock Health-Backed Kit Check Lands $10.4M To Help Hospitals Reduce Costs, Keep Life-Saving Inventory Up To Date

Screen shot 2013-07-16 at 3.18.27 AMIn spite of their critical role within the health system -- and the life saving care they provide -- hospitals today continue to be bogged down by archaic practices and inefficiencies which are costly not only for hospitals themselves, but those receiving care. Take "hospital pharmacy kits," for example. Also known as code trays, crash carts and anesthesiology kits, these care packs are located throughout hospitals (often as many as 50 of them) to give doctors, nurses and care providers quick access to the life saving medication and equipment contained within.

Royal Tips for Dads in the Delivery Room

Jul 16, 2013 10:38am

While the world is transfixed on the?royal baby watch, millions of other ?regular? women are in their own final countdown.

Royal Baby Could Arrive ?by the End of the Week,? Camilla Says

Prince William is expected to be present in?the delivery room?for the birth of England?s future monarch (and his first child), and he may be feeling every bit as nervous as Kate! So here?s what he might expect and here are also some tips for him or any other dad-to-be!

From Kate?s pregnancy fashion to the odds on the name, click here for full coverage of the royal baby.

During pregnancy, labor and delivery, the expectant father often gets overlooked. So much of the focus is on the mother and baby (for good reason), but it is normal for dads-to-be to feel nervous, anxious or downright petrified.

At this ?we?re-on-the-launching-pad? stage in pregnancy, a lot of these concerns center around the prospect of being present for the delivery: the delivery room is one of those places that some fathers would rather avoid at all costs.

For one thing, there?s a lot of blood.? In an average vaginal delivery, there ?s almost half a liter of blood loss.?? Even a dad who is a doctor, fireman, police officer or EMT can become squeamish when that blood is coming from his wife.

But it?s not just blood: pretty much every bodily fluid can be ?expressed? (medical jargon for ?fly across the room?) during delivery.? And I do mean ?nearly every? bodily fluid (amniotic fluid, urine, stool, vomit, mucus, tears).

Lastly, there can be screaming and crying and that?s just from the dads! The laboring woman can become emotional as well, and all of these elements really stack the deck for many expectant dads.?? Many wish they could somehow get a ?pass? on having to be there, but they do it for their wife and their unborn baby.

Now, it?s important to remember that certainly not ALL fathers-to-be feel this way.? Some are excited to be present for such a miraculous event and some feel absolutely no uneasiness at being front and center for the birth of their baby. ?I worship these men.

However, I also admire the men who are open and honest about their feelings of NOT wanting to be there. I once delivered the baby of a man who stayed in the patient bathroom for his wife?s entire labor and delivery.? He spoke loving words of encouragement to her from four feet away, behind a semi-closed door.? I?m sure he was somewhat embarrassed by his fear of seeing anything gory, but I actually found his emotional frailty to be refreshingly poignant beside his wife undergoing one of the most incredible physical feats that the human body is capable of.

So what should dads know before checking in to labor and delivery with his wife?

Tip 1

Don?t be afraid to ask questions of the nurses and/or doctors.? L&D can be a very busy, hectic and sometimes stressful place but we are used to answering questions and in fact, it?s part of our job!? Speak up!

Tip 2

Do try to be open about your feelings but in between your wife?s contractions MAY not be the ideal time at which to start these discussions.?? Delivering a baby (either vaginally or via c-section) requires tremendous mental, emotional and physical focus and if we are focused on you, we will be distracted from the baby.

Tip 3

This is the most important piece of advice: If you feel faint or dizzy, sit down on the floor with your back against a wall and your head between your knees immediately. When a nurse and doctor have to shift their attention from a laboring woman and her baby to an unconscious man, it puts multiple lives in jeopardy and disrupts the good mojo in the delivery room.

Tip 4

Do not bolt out of the room right after the baby is born to issue a press release. ?There will be plenty of time to notify friends and family.? This is precious and special new family time and spending it with your wife and new baby are more important than handing out cigars.? There?s plenty of time for that later!

Tip 5

If your wife is having a long labor or induction, during which eating is not usually permitted due to the concern of aspirating (or inhaling food particles into the lungs because of delayed stomach emptying in pregnancy), resist the urge to eat a huge meal with strong aromas directly next to the woman who?hasn?t?eaten in many hours.

And finally, enjoy this incredible process!? Labor of your first child will be the last few moments you and your wife have together as a twosome before you become parents.? Though things can get hectic during labor, it can also be a serene time, when time seems suspended.? Cherish it!

Washington-Marion forward Mark Vital more than 'just a dunker'

While Curtis? Khalea Turner was the only Louisiana player ranked in the ESPN 25 rankings for the 2016 class, he could get some local company on the list very soon.?

Washington-Marion forward Mark Vital has been making his mark throughout the summer and has made a name for himself as one of the top wing players in the class.

Several media outlets, including ESPN, claimed Vital, 6 feet 4 and 210 pounds, was one of the top players at the Super Sophomore All-American camp held in early June. He has also been tearing up the AAU scene as a member of Southern Elite.

It was those types of performances that have led to Vital to secure offers from Baylor and Western Kentucky before entering his sophomore season.

?It has been a good experience so far,? Vital said. ?These are great opportunities to know that I have two offers already. That means I can get even better schools with hard work.?

Vital has visited both schools so far and talked with former Riverside forward Rico Gathers when he went to Baylor. However, he knows that college is three years away so he?s also focused on becoming the best player in 2016.

That was one of the reasons he asserted himself so much at the Super Sophomore camp in June.

?I think I?m the best,? Vital said. ?But it was a lot of motivation. It makes me want to work harder and become even better than the people at the top. I?m coming for the people at the top.?

Vital is one of the most explosive dunkers in the state and constantly finishes above the rim but he is adamant to answer critics that say his game is strictly about dunking.

?That?s not all I do,? he said. ?I can dribble. I can score. I can play defense. I can do all of that. I don?t know where people get that from that I?m just a leaper or a dunker though.

?I can do it all. I know I need work on my shooting. I know I got a left hand. I know I got a right hand. But I just take that criticism and use it as motivation.?

The shooting aspect of Vital?s game will become an even more important part next year as he vows to make defenses pay if they try to clog the lane and force him into more shots.

?I?ve been working on my shooting every day now,? Vital said. ?I have a good coach that?s been helping me with that. Teams are going to get it next year. If they give me an open shot, I?m shooting it and I?m making it.??

Syrian opposition: Assad's forces advance into rebel-held district of Damascus

Mohamed Abdullah / Reuters

A boy sits on a damaged street filled with debris in Harasta area in Damascus on Friday.

AMMAN, Jordan - Syrian troops backed by tanks and artillery moved into a rebel-held district of Damascus on Monday, stepping up efforts to drive opposition fighters from the capital and build on battlefield gains elsewhere in the country, a rebel commander said.?

Opposition sources said troops loyal to President Bashar Assad advanced into the neighborhood of Qaboun after subjecting the Sunni Muslim district to heavy shelling. Two adjacent rebel-held neighborhoods have been under sustained fire in recent weeks to cut off the movement of rebel fighters.?

Diplomats and security sources said Assad appeared intent on securing the capital from rebels that pose a threat to his troops, who are dug into positions in the center of the city.?

Backed by guerrillas from the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Assad has recaptured important regions in central Syria in the past two months, linking Damascus to his Alawite heartland on the coast. His troops now appear focused on eliminating the rebel threat to the capital.?

Assad's gains, after more than two years of a war that has killed more than 90,000 people, come amid growing signs of rebel infighting that has pitted Islamist fighters against the Western- and Arab-backed Free Syrian Army.?

In Qaboun, Republican Guards troops detained hundreds of people in public places to prevent rebel fighters from hitting government troops as they breached rebel defenses and entered the district, activists said.?

There was no immediate comment on the fighting from the Syrian government and Reuters was not able to verify opposition accounts.?

/

A look back at the conflict that has overtaken the country.

Republican guards
Qaboun contains an industrial area through which rebels had been linking up with opposition units in the north-eastern suburb of Harasta.

Republican Guard units overran the industrial area and besieged Qaboun with T-72 tanks while units on high ground in the center of the capital hit Qaboun with rockets and artillery, according to a rebel commander there.

"They made inroads into Qaboun. We are still on the high buildings but they took lots of civilians to prevent us from hitting them," said Mohammad Abu al-Hoda of the Free Syrian Army.

He said the hostages were being held in a mosque and two schools.

The Qaboun Coordination Committee, an activist group, said at least 60 people had been killed in Qaboun over the last few days by the shelling and subsequent clashes.

A working class district, Qaboun was one of the first areas of Damascus to demonstrate against four decades of rule by Assad and his late father before becoming a center of armed resistance after security forces killed dozens of Sunni Muslim protesters.

The conflict has taken on a sectarian dimension seen elsewhere in Syria, with Sunni Qaboun pitted against an adjacent neighborhood inhabited by members Assad's Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam that has dominated the state since the 1960s.

The opposition Syrian National Coalition said in a statement that 200 people were trapped in a mosque in Qaboun and 40,000 civilians in Qaboun and nearby Barzeh have been under siege for the last seven months and face the threat of being wiped out by indiscriminate shelling.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a pro-opposition monitoring group, said that the detained residents were able to flee the mosque on Saturday. But it said locals were struggling to cope with shortages of food and medicine and the presence of snipers.?

'UFC 166: Velasquez vs. dos Santos III' tickets on sale Aug. 2

cain-velasquez-30.jpgTickets for "UFC 166: Velasquez vs. dos Santos III," which features a headliner rubber match between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (12-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) and ex-titleholder Junior dos Santos (16-2 MMA, 10-1 UFC), go on sale next month.

The event takes place Oct. 19 at Houston's Toyota Center. The evening's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.

UFC officials recently announced tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT local time). However, UFC Fight Club members can buy tickets on Wednesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. ET, and UFC.com e-newsletter subscribers can purchase tickets on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. ET.

Ticket prices haven't been announced.

Velasquez and dos Santos meet for the third time in less than two years in a heavily anticipated trilogy contest. The fighters set up the trilogy in May at UFC 160 when Velasquez stopped Antonio Silva in the headliner and dos Santos knocked out Mark Hunt in the co-headliner. The bout was considered a title eliminator for dos Santos.

Velasquez and dos Santos first met at UFC on FOX 1 in November 2011, when dos Santos stopped Velasquez in just 64 seconds. That was Velasquez's first defense of the belt after taking it from Brock Lesnar.

In their rematch at UFC 155, though, Velasquez dominated dos Santos for five rounds to win back the belt. His win over Silva marked his first successful title defense.

In addition to the night's headliner, the evening's lineup also includes welterweights?Hector Lombard (32-4-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Nate Marquardt (32-12-2 MMA, 10-5 UFC), lightweight?Gilbert Melendez (21-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. "The Ultimate Fighter 1" winner Diego Sanchez (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC), and lightweights ?Tony Ferguson (13-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) vs.?Mike Rio (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC). More bouts are expected to be announced shortly.

iPhone 5S mass production said to start this month ahead of Sept-Oct launch

BGR writes, Apple's manufacturing and supply chain partners are reportedly gearing up to begin mass production of the iPhone 5S later this month. The news comes from a new research note issued by well-respected Jefferies & Company analyst Peter Misek, and it closely follows an earlier report that claimed Foxconn is currently hiring more workers to accommodate heavy iPhone orders from Apple. Misek expects plenty of inventory for the iPhone 5S launch, with shipments in the September-quarter totaling between 25 million and 30 million units, and then holiday-quarter shipments will reportedly skyrocket to?

(AP Photo/Chris Pizzello, File)

(AP) ? Cory Monteith, the heartthrob actor who became an overnight star as a high school quarterback-turned-singer in the hit TV series "Glee" but had battled addiction since his teenage years, was found dead of undisclosed causes in a hotel room, Vancouver police said. He was 31.

Police said Sunday that an autopsy is expected to take place Monday to determine the cause of death. Acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LePard said late Saturday there was no indication of foul play.

The Canadian-born actor, who played Finn Hudson on the Fox TV series about a high school glee club, was found dead around noon Saturday in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on Vancouver's waterfront, according to police.

Monteith had openly talked about struggling with addiction since he was a teenager, saying he had a serious problem and took just "anything and everything." He told Parade magazine in 2011 that he was "lucky to be alive."

In April, Monteith checked himself in to a treatment facility for "substance addiction" and asked for privacy as he took steps toward recovery, a representative said at the time. It was not his first time in rehab. He received treatment when he was 19.

Lea Michele, his "Glee" co-star and real-life girlfriend, told People magazine at the time that she loved and supported him and was proud he was seeking help.

Michele was requesting privacy after receiving news of Monteith's death, said her representative, Molly Kawachi of ID-PR .

"We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time," Kawachi said in in an email to The Associated Press.

Monteith's body was found by hotel staff who entered his room after he missed his check-out time, LePard said. Monteith had checked into the hotel on July 6.

"We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death," said British Columbia Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe. She said further tests would be needed to determine how Monteith died.

LePard said Monteith had been out with people earlier and that those people are being interviewed.

Video and electronic records from the hotel indicate Monteith returned to his room by himself early Saturday morning, and he was believed to be alone when he died, LePard said.

Lapointe said he had been dead for several hours by the time his body was found.

Several "Glee" cast members took to Twitter to express their feelings.

"I have no words! My heart is broken," Dot-Marie Jones, who plays football coach Shannon Beiste, said in a post on her Twitter account Saturday night. She called Monteith a "hell of a friend" and an "amazing" man.

Noah Puckerman actor Mark Salling said Sunday he was "going through a million memories and emotions today."

Lauren Potter, who plays Becky Jackson, the cheerleader with Down Syndrome, tweeted that she feels "totally heartbroken right now."

"I love Cory so much this hurts my heart," she wrote. "I hope my Glee family is OK right now. I love them all. Cory was always so nice to me. I have so many good memories."

Harry Shum Jr., who portrays dancer Mike Chang on the show, expressed disbelief on Twitter.

"This tragic news still doesn't seem real to me," said Shum. "I love you, Cory."

John Stamos, who appeared as a guest star on several episodes of "Glee" tweeted: "Heartbreaking. RIP Cory. We talked about how lucky he felt to be alive-and sober. We talked about playing drums. Glad i knew you Cory." Monteith played drums in a California-based indie rock band Bonnie Dune.

Matthew Morrison, who plays glee club coach Will Schuester, issued condolences before performing at a Sunday afternoon show at the cabaret 54 Below in New York, according to the New York Times. The newspaper said he changed his opening number to sing an a cappella rendition of "What I Did for Love" from the musical, "A Chorus Line," which was featured during the second season of "Glee."

"You guys came to see a show, I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do," he said, according to the newspaper. "And we'll do it in Cory's honor."

The Times said Morrison went on with a set of show tunes and jazz standards, dancing on stage and quipping with the audience about the infamous drug-den history of the space under the 1970's club, Studio 54, where the performance took place.

Fox and the producers of "Glee," including 20th Century Fox Television, called Monteith an exceptional performer "and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously."

"We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," his representatives at Viewpoint Public Relations in Los Angeles said in a statement.

Monteith, who turned 31 on May 11, starred in "Glee" as a high school football player who puts his status and popularity at risk to join the glee club and its outcast members.

The show, with its pop music-based song-and-dance numbers and high-profile guest stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, became an immediate hit and made stars of its relatively unknown cast.

The series, which debuted in 2009, is in its fourth season.

On his Twitter account, Monteith described himself as "tall, awkward, canadian, actor, drummer, person."

He had recently shot a Canadian film called "All the Wrong Reasons," slated to be released later this year with actors Kevin Zegers, Karine Vanasse and Emily Hampshire.

In a 2010 interview with The Associated Press, Monteith was upbeat about life. He said that if "Glee" were to be canceled he would be OK.

"I've never been afraid of working," he said. "I've never been afraid of auditioning for jobs. Obviously, I've never been afraid of anonymity. I was happy (before 'Glee'). I'm happy now. I guess I'm well adjusted."

Monteith was among the "Glee" actors who remained series regulars as their characters graduated high school and moved on to other adventures. However, in real life Montieth dropped out of high school in Vancouver after his parents divorced.

According to his biography on Fox's website, Monteith was born in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to Vancouver Island as a child. Before turning to acting, he held a variety of jobs including Wal-Mart greeter, school bus driver, roofer and cab driver.

"Thanks for always being kind Cory. You came a long way from hanging on the beaches in Vancouver with the gang pre-Glee," tweeted Gerard Funk, an actor from Vancouver who joined the "Glee" cast last year.

Monteith's TV credits included roles on the series "Kaya" and "Kyle XY" and guest appearances on "Smallville," ''Supernatural," ''Stargate," ''Flash Gordon" and "Interns." His film credits included "Final Destination 3," ''The Invisible," ''Deck the Halls" and "Whisper."

His big break came when he submitted an audition tape to the "Glee" producers in Los Angeles and then raced straight down the Pacific Coast in his car from Vancouver when he was invited to meet them in person.

"I nailed it. I knew I nailed it," Monteith recalled about his audition in an interview with Canadian TV columnist Bill Brioux. "When you walk in to the room, the heads of Fox ... of course it's a little unnerving. Then you realize they're all waiting for you. It's kind of flattering in a way."

Monteith was an avid supporter of Project Limelight, a Vancouver charity that offers a theater and arts programs to at-risk youth. He dined with Project Limelight co-founder Maureen Webb at a Vancouver restaurant just days before his death.

In a Globe and Mail interview last year, Monteith credited Webb for suggesting that he enroll in acting classes when he was 19 years old and going down a "very dark path."

He kept in touch with Webb and made a video to support Project Limelight when the charity was launched last year.

"I think kids really need a place to go and feel like they belong," Monteith said in the video posted on Project Limelight's website. "When I was a kid, I struggled a lot with who I was and where my life was going and what I was interested in. And I was fortunate to have the arts inspire me."

Outside Vancouver hotel, fans paid tribute to Monteith by leaving notes, flowers and stuffed animals.

Helen Slater, 16, who was visiting from England, said she was shocked to hear about his death as she placed a note and a stuffed moose because he had once been photographed wearing moose antlers. She called him a "positive influence" and said "Glee" helped change her life.

"Nothing's going to be the same anymore," she said. The show "just put me (through) some really tough times, and helped me through depression a lot."

Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2 ZeroLemon battery reviews visualised

Galaxy S3, S4 and Note 2 ZeroLemon battery reviews visualised

Smartphone battery life can often be a touchy subject among owners of certain handsets, and sometimes no matter how good it is there will be times that we need more. There are solutions to this problem though in the form of replacement batteries or special cases, and today we are looking at some ZeroLemon battery reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, and Note 2.

The first video we have for you is the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the 7,000 mAh ZeroLemon battery pack, which compares to the 2,100 mAh battery that comes with the handset. The replacement battery is huge and takes a while to get it fitted correctly but when it?s in place with the special rear cover put over the top of it you can see how much larger the handset is now.

It has a matte feel to it and the volume controls and power button now need a harder press for them to work, but the rear cover does add some protection to the smartphone. The next video is for the Galaxy Note 2 which is a handset that is always praised for its battery life but the ZeroLemon now adds a 9,300 mAh unit compared to the 3,100 mAh battery that comes with the smartphone.

The battery pack comes with a similar rear case that includes all the cut outs for the handsets features including the stylus and this one seems to fit in easier than the Galaxy S3 version. Once fitted it at least doubles the thickness of the smartphone with a weighty feel that the reviewer liked, but previously we have seen one user fit a 9,000 mAh battery to their Note 2.

Again the buttons need a firmer press to get them to work and when fitted a unit such as this may not be ideal for everyday use, but if you know it?s going to be a long time before you can reach a charger it will be ideal.

The last video we have for you is the Galaxy S4 version of the ZeroLemon battery pack and is 7,500 mAh in size, which replaces the 2,600 mAh standard battery. Check out the three videos and tell us if you ever need a boost in battery such as this.

The long truth about short web apps

The slow truth about web apps

For years one of the biggest knocks on mobile web apps was performance -- they just never felt as fast or as fluid as native apps. Yet proponents of web apps have begged to differ, and sought to show that web apps could, if not today then one day, prove good enough for general purpose use. Tired of the subjective arguments, Drew Crawford has tried to present an objective analysis on Sealed Abstract:

But the real elephant in the room here is that in all these articles on this subject, rarely does anyone actually quantify how slow JS is or provide any sort of actually useful standard of comparison. (You know? slow relative to what?) To correct this, I will develop, in this article, not just one useful equivalency for JavaScript performance?but three of them. So I?m not only going to argue the ?traditional hymns? of ?wa wa JS is slow for arbitrary case?, but I?m going to quantify exactly how slow it is, and compare it to a wide variety of things in your real-life programming experience so that, when you are faced with your own platform decision, you can do your own back-of-the-napkin math on whether or not JavaScript is feasible for solving your own particular problem.

We spent some time debating this topic on Talk Mobile as well. As someone who distinctly remembers it taking nearly half a minute for the webOS calendar to open on my Palm Pre Plus, and the early generation of sweet iPhone apps it's almost inconceivable to me that anyone would argue web apps, cloud-based or local, could come anywhere near native performance. As to whether they could eventually become as fast, one day, that seems like an impossible argument for anyone to make primarily because native apps show no sign of slowing down any time soon.

What can be argued, I think, is that in some cases web apps make sense despite their performance. Speed and smoothness are important elements of an app, but they're only two elements, and in some cases other ones might take precedence. The idea of an informed trade-off makes a lot more sense to me than simply an HTML5 dream and wishing it so. An app you have to access from any device, any where, for example, makes availability more important than speed, and that's something web apps excel at.

Anyway, at nearly 10K words, you might want to block out some time from Crawford's piece, or InstaPockAbility it for when you do have time. If the subject of web apps vs. native code interests you, it's well worth it.

Chris Weidman, Brian Stann, and jerkfaces: Where did they fall on Cagewriter?s Hot or Not list?

This week has been about adjusting to an MMA world where Anderson Silva is not the UFC's middleweight champ. Who had a good week, and who didn't?

Hot -- Chris Weidman: After winning the UFC middleweight belt by knocking out Anderson Silva in a shocking fashion, he celebrated in Las Vegas before heading home to New York. He then went on to a media tour and got to relish his victory.

Not -- The jerkfaces who forced Invicta's Ashley Cummins to close her Twitter and Facebook accounts: In addition to being a fighter, Cummins is a police officer. After she lost in October, she told Bleacher Report she was inundated with anti-law enforcement messages and even death threats on Facebook and Twitter. It takes a special kind of coward to go after someone you don't know who puts her life on the line to keep others safe. She ended up deleting her accounts, which is one of the main ways fighters market themselves and stay in touch with fans.

Hot -- Brian Stann: The UFC middleweight decided to retire to focus on his family and a burgeoning broadcast career. In addition to work for Fox on fight nights, he will also cover college football for the network.

Not -- Tito Ortiz: This week, the UFC Hall of Famer hinted about a comeback. This isn't what put him in the "not hot" category. It's the reaction. Never have Cagereaders on Twitter and Facebook been so united behind an idea. Not one wanted to see him fight again.

Still taking temperature -- Marloes Coenen: The onetime Strikeforce champ is getting another shot at another Strikeforce champ, Cristiane Cyborg. Will Coenen get the win this time? Check it out on Invicta's pay-per-view on Saturday night.

Thank you for reading Cagewriter. Follow on Twitter and Facebook because it's a good time.

'Revival of the Silk Road': Kazakhs launch China-Europe rail route

Frederic J. Brown / AFP - Getty Images, file

A train passes on tracks running parallel with the Tian Shan mountain range on the outskirts of Korla, an oil town south of Urumqi, capital of China's far west Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, on October 10, 2006.

By Dmitry Solovyov, Reuters

ASTANA, Kazakhstan -- Kazakhstan has launched a new transit railway linking China to Europe, aiming to beat rival routes for journey time in the competition to handle a growing flow of goods along the ancient Silk Road trade route.

"Kazakhstan is a virtual bridge linking the East and the West," Yerkin Meirbekov, deputy railway department chief at Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry, said in an interview. "You can actually say this is the revival of the Silk Road."

Centuries ago, it would take months for caravans of camels and horses from China to reach Europe across the sun-scorched steppes and deserts of Central Asia to exchange silk for medicines, perfumes and precious stones.

Now it takes just 15 days for trains carrying containers with electronic goods, construction materials and other cargo to cover the 6,750 mile route from Chongqing in southwest China to Duisburg in Germany's industrial Ruhr region.

Late last year, Kazakhstan completed construction of a 183-mile stretch from Zhetygen to Korgas at the Chinese border, looping it in to the existing national railway network and opening the second China-Europe link across its territory.

Meirbekov said that the annual volume of freight turnover along the new route, guaranteed by China, was set to total 2 million metric tons this year and would rise eventually to 15 million metric tons.

A train carrying 45 tons of liquefied petroleum gas imported from Kazakhstan arrives at the Alashankou (Alataw Pass) Port in Bozhou in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on June 14, 2010.

"The Chinese side, as well as the Kazakh side and European partners -- everyone is ready (to handle these volumes) already tomorrow," Meirbekov said.

"All railways, as well as customs and border guards, are ready to assist fast passage of cargo across their territories."

Europe-bound trains from China cross from Kazakhstan into Russia. Then they go via Belarus and Poland before reaching Duisburg in Germany.

Transit routes are a major earner for the fast-growing economy of Kazakhstan -- the world's ninth-largest nation by area but with a population of only 17 million.

No, the Jesuits didn't kill Abraham Lincoln | CatholicHerald.co.uk

The Society of Jesus has inspired some of the most bizarre conspiracy theories you will ever read

Abraham Lincoln: a supposed target of the Jesuits

Abraham Lincoln: a supposed target of the Jesuits

The election of the first Jesuit pope was unexpected, but the response in some of the more delusional corners of the internet was depressingly predictable. It took no time at all for the conspiracy theorists to dust off their fictions and start warning us against the centuries-old Jesuit plot to take over the world.

The Society of Jesus has been putting up with this kind of nonsense for a very long time and no myth has been quite so persistent as the supposed Jesuit addiction to political assassination. In the mid-17th century, one William Crashaw denounced the burgeoning Jesuit educational project as a sham: the real reason behind all the schools, Crashaw opined, was to ?pick out the finest young wits of the world? and ?train them up [so] that the pope will never want instruments to kill kings?. The subsequent roster of supposed Jesuit targets (some despatched, others not) is impressive: Henry III, Henry IV, and Louis XIV of France, various English monarchs and an alarming number of US Presidents: William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, James A Garfield, William McKinley and Abraham Lincoln among them.

The anti-Jesuit myth-making machine has spiralled out of control. One of the most striking examples is a late 18th-century tract in which every aspect of Jesuit activity was pilloried. Jesuits were very good at science, the author wrote, but this was only because they required chemists and pharmacists to concoct poisons ?as shall be able to infect dishes, plates, salt cellars, basins, kettles, and all sorts of utensils, though they be 10 times washed and cleansed?. Jesuits had some impressive buildings, but this was only in order to conceal ?magazines of iron bullets, fire balls, ordinance, muskets, harquebuses, pikes and halberds? and ?resist force by force should their secret intrigues meet with unexpected resistance?.

At several hundred years? distance, this is all quite amusing, but there is a significant cultural phenomenon at the heart of the anti-Jesuit myth-making. Anyone interested in the nature of modern-day conspiracy theorising would do well to look at how Jesuit history has been misinterpreted. The perennial themes are all there.

It is crucial to stress that not every Jesuit has been a loyal and upstanding citizen. Some of those missionary priests back in Elizabethan England would presumably have been pleased if a plotter had managed to do away with the Virgin Queen, but these are aberrations and one would struggle to identify any religious order that was entirely free of rotten apples.

Have some Jesuits sought political influence (by non-regicidal means)? Yes, of course they have, but this hardly damns the entire Jesuit enterprise.

Crucially, the notion of a secretive, centuries-old, institutional campaign is bunkum. Are we really to believe the tall tales of hidden silver mines in Mexico and Peru, or the covert rites in which assassins? daggers were blessed with holy water? Are we to accept that figures as various as Fidel Castro, Cardinal Richelieu, and emperors from China to Ethiopia were little more than Jesuit stooges? Of course we?re not.

The bile and nonsense continue to flow, however. One couldn?t help but notice that, in the wake of Francis?s election, quotations from the infamous Monita Secreta appeared with alarming frequency around the blogosphere. This 17th-century text ? a work of pure fantasy ? claimed to reveal the sinister ?secret instructions? of the Society of Jesus: cosying up to wealthy widows, securing political influence by whatever means necessary, and much worse besides. It is one of the most ludicrous books ever written, but it shows few signs of falling out of fashion.

A counterblast of common sense is therefore called for, so here is a rule of thumb. If a conspiracy theory manages to take in everything from starting the Great Fire of London, to inaugurating the American Civil War, to sinking the Titanic, then you can safely assume it is bonkers. Not that this will silence the fantasists. They are a determined bunch, as I know from personal experience.

Back in 2004 I wrote what I regarded, and still regard, as an even-handed history of the Jesuits. I was scrupulous about identifying both the saints and the sinners, and there have been plenty of both over the past five centuries. This was not enough for some of my internet-based critics. One of them accused me of putting too positive a spin on Jesuit history and of being, no joke, a Jesuit secret agent in thrall to the Society?s dark and ancient machinations. Oh, the glamour! But I?m sorry to report that I was just a historian doing my job by delving into both the gaffes and the glories of a complex religious tradition.
This incident taught me two things. First, try to resist the temptation to Google your name and, second, whenever you encounter an outlandish Jesuit conspiracy theory, shrug your shoulders and get on with the more important business of studying the Jesuit past and present with objectivity. The Jesuits have made enough actual mistakes to keep their critics busy, and have done enough wonderful things to keep their fans happy. There is no need to make things up.

Alien planet's mysterious blue color leaves scientists wondering

The Hubble Space Telescope helped scientists to identify the blue color of an exoplanet, giving researchers another piece in their understanding of the distant world. The alien planet has fierce winds and high temperatures, which turn rain into glass.?

By Miriam Kramer,?SPACE.com / July 11, 2013

This illustration shows HD 189733b, a huge gas giant that orbits very close to its host star HD 189733. The planet's atmosphere is scorching with a temperature of over 1000 degrees Celsius. Scientists recently discovered it's deep blue color.

NASA, ESA, M. Kornmesser

Call it the deep blue dot. For the first time, scientists have seen the visible color of a distant alien world. The exoplanet ? called HD 189733b ? is 63 light-years from Earth and a "deep cobalt blue," with raging storms of glass rain and super-fast winds, scientists say.

' + google_ads[0].line2 + '
' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; // google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

The?alien planet's blue color?was pinned down using observations from the Hubble Space Telescope. Although the planet might be the same color as Earth from space, scientists think that HD 189733b is a "hot Jupiter" ? a gas giant planet that orbits very close to its star. It takes 2.2 Earth days for the planet to travel fully around its sun.

"This planet has been studied well in the past, both by ourselves and other teams," said Fr?d?ric Pont of the University of Exeter, U.K., leader of the Hubble observing program in a statement. "But measuring its color is a real first ? we can actually imagine what this planet would look like if we were able to look at it directly." [See More Images of the Blue Alien Planet HD 189733b]

The exoplanet's weather is less than ideal. Its atmosphere is more than 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit (1,000 degrees Celsius) and the planet rains glass sideways in 4,350 mile per hour (7,000 km/h) winds, according to Hubble officials.

In 2007, NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope helped scientists?map the weather conditions of the strange alien planet?when the spacecraft produced one of the first temperature maps of an exoplanet. The data revealed that temperatures on the day and night sides of the world differ by about 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees Celsius), causing the strong winds to blow.

Scientists aren't sure what causes the blue planet's coloration, however.

"It's difficult to know exactly what causes the color of a planet's atmosphere, even for planets in the solar system," Pont said. "But these new observations add another piece to the puzzle over the nature and?atmosphere of HD 189733b. We are slowly painting a more complete picture of this exotic planet."

The research team uncovered the planet's color by measuring the light reflected off the surface of the planet.

"We saw the brightness of the whole system drop in the blue part of the spectrum when the planet passed behind its star," Tom Evans of the University of Oxford, U.K., the leader of the study being published in the Aug. 1 issue of the journal Astrophysical Journal Letters said in a statement. "From this, we can gather that the planet is blue, because the signal remained constant at the other colors we measured."
